HOW INVENTED THE BANKER’S LAMP?
The banker’s lamp, as it is known today, was originally called the Emeralite. This name comes from a combination of emerald and light.
Harrison D. McFaddin, an American engineer, filed a patent application for what he called “a new, original and ornamental design for lamp shades” in 1909. Once the patent was approved, production of the lamps began quickly.
The US-based company McFaddin chose to produce all their glass shades at the J. Schreiber & Neffen factory located in Rapotin, Czech Republic.
The iconic green lamp became popular in many places, not only in financial institutions. People believed that the lamp had psychological benefits and looked elegant, so it became common to see them in libraries, law offices, and academic desks.
